ABOUT THE FOUNDATION

The Fishers of Men Foundation was created June 2015 in the loving memory of Alfred S. Tunnell Jr. Alfred S. Tunnell had a passion for fishing from a young age. He was taught how to fish from his grandfather and father who were boats men and owned fish markets in Lewes, DE. Alfred followed in his fathers footsteps and was formally trained by the United Coast Guard and had been sports fishing until his untimely death. Alfred not only was an expert fisherman but his concern was that young people having an opportunity to attend college or trade school. As an entrepreneur, Alfred instilled cole values of hard work, dedication and commitment into his children and many people he came in contact with

 

MISSION

Not only was his mission to help people but to spread a message of hope and faith in God to a dying generation. One of his favorite passages of scriptures was, "Matthew 4:19 KJV And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

 

Therefore, The Fishers of Men Foundation is a faith based organization that will assist one deserving high school senior every year with a monetary scholarship to attend the college or trade school of their choice. The foundation consisted of seven board members who will vote to select the student who will receive the yearly scholarship. 

The following qualifications are required to receive the scholarship:

 

  • Student must be a US Citizen

  • Student must be a high school senior

  • Student must have GPA of 2.5 or higher

  • Student must be active in community services and projects

  • Student must be accepted into a College/University or Trade school prior to receiving the Scholarship

  • Student must be active in school activities and possess a good citizenship attitude in and out of school

  • Student must apply for the scholarship by completing the application and essay 

  • Student must provide letter of acceptance from school

  • 2015-16 Application will be available October 1, 2015.

  • Application and Essay must be signed, completed and returned no later than April 1, 2016.
